What is Color Converter and Why Use It?

Design tools, CSS and brand guidelines rarely agree on one colour notation, so this converts between them: pick a colour or type a hex value, and read the equivalent RGB channels and HSL values. The conversion is the standard one — hue from which channel dominates, saturation from the spread between the brightest and darkest channel, lightness from their midpoint. All three notations describe exactly the same colour, so nothing is approximated in the round trip. HSL is the reason to bother: it is far easier to adjust by hand, because you can lighten or darken a colour without disturbing its hue, which is how consistent tints and shades of a brand colour get built. The input needs the full six-digit hex form; three-digit shorthand and alpha channels are not read, so expand `#f0a` to `#ff00aa` before pasting it in.
